Coaching for individuals
Life coaching is just what it says on the tin. A life coach can help you with any aspects of life. As a life coach I focus on your mental health . I am not qualified to diagnose or treat any physical health conditions. The coaching experience is just as individual as we all are. We are all different, thus our coaching experience will be different from anyone else.
I have only touched on a few things I can help with below. If your reason for being here is not covered, send me a message or give me a call for an informal chat and we can arrange a free consultation face to face in Brighton and Hove or via Skype/Facetime. The chances are, any combination of coaching, NLP, time line therapy, hypnosis or CBT can help you deal with whatever it is that brought you to my website today.
Stress, panic attacks and anxiety
We live in fast paced, stressful times. Work is stressful, even finding work is stressful, parenting is stressful, relationships can be stressful. It’s often hard to escape these stresses. In this day and age of technology and social media we’re never out of touch with people, news, work etc. It’s no wonder people are struggling more and more with anxiety. News, whether good or bad is always right there to see. The world is in our faces. It’s no wonder stress accounts for more work absences than anything else. You can also come to me for panic attacks and any type of anxiety. This could be stage fright if you are a performer, or even if you just have to give a speech or presentation for work, panic attacks in public places or any specific situations, or general anxiety. Even if you’re not sure what specifically causes your panic or anxiety, don’t worry, that’s what I’m here to help you get to the bottom of.
During stress management coaching we can narrow down exactly what causes you to feel stressed or anxious, I can introduce you to NLP techniques to help you relax and manage your stress and anxiety, together we can work through every aspect of your life and allow you to live it free of stress and anxiety. You can finally be that calm, relaxed confident person you have always wanted to be.
How can you achieve anything you want to achieve if you’re constantly telling yourself you just can’t do it? How will you find that perfect relationship if you keep telling yourself you’re not good enough? How can you truly be happy if you don’t really believe you deserve it? Sound familiar?
I can help you get to the root of these bad feelings. They started somewhere, and understanding this can help you let them go. I can help you look forward, and help you see that these bad feelings are holding you back, they’re not useful to you, they don’t help you,so isn’t it about time you let them go?
We spend a huge percentage of our lives at work. As work is such a huge part of our lives, it’s important to be getting satisfaction out of our work. If we’re doing something for 5 out of 7 days each week, we should be doing something we enjoy. I don’t believe in that feeling of dread on a Monday morning. I don’t believe anyone should be stuck in a job they hate. No-one is truly stuck. We can all make that leap to do whatever it is we really want to do. Maybe you’re feeling stuck. Maybe you don’t really love your job, but you’re not sure what you would love to do, or maybe you know exactly what you’d like to do but you just don’t know how to get into it. Maybe you’re talking yourself out of it. There are all sorts of issues with making a leap from a job you do for the money to a job you do because you love it, especially if you’re financially secure where you are. There’s always uncertainty when making a change.
Together we can work out what it is that would make you truly happy. We can look at your work-life balance because this is equally important. Work is just one aspect of your life, it shouldn’t be the only one that matters. But I can help you get to a point where you wake up in the morning and smile because you just can’t wait to get to work. Or maybe you’ll be waking up smiling because of the fulfilling life you’re also having outside of work. You may feel this is an impossible dream. I don’t believe it is. I’m living proof. Each and every day I can’t wait to get back to the job I do here. If I can do it, anyone can do it!
Social anxiety and building relationships
Social anxiety can be exhausting, isolating and very frightening. You will have your own reasons for it, even if you don’t know them yet we can get to the root of them together.
Maybe you struggle talking to new people, maybe you struggle in groups, maybe you’re having trouble finding that special someone. These are all things we can work on in coaching sessions. We can look at your habits and make sure you’re doing all you can do to maximise the chance of finding a meaningful relationship, and find ways together of conquering your fears and anxieties once and for all. There are many NLP techniques that we can use to rid you of this problem so you can have the future that you desire.
Wouldn’t you love to be that confident person who strolls casually over to that person who catches your eye and starts chatting like it’s the easiest thing in the world? I know you’d love to be free and confident enough to be the life and soul of the party, and be holding the attention of your entire friendship group with ease. Trust me, it can be done. You’re the only person holding you back, you just need to learn to free yourself.
Addictions can be powerful, all consuming. They can make us do things we would never normally even consider. It can feel like they’re controlling you. They can also take any form. Maybe it’s drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling, even chocolate. In the case of serious drug addictions I would always request that you are seeking medical help as well as my help, but together we can start to regain that control you feel you’ve lost. I can teach you some powerful techniques to change the way you think about whatever it is you are addicted to, and allow you to see and experience a life free of your addiction. Hypnosis can also be a very powerful tool for dealing with addictions, and we can discuss a suitable course of action for you.
Phobias can be extremely powerful. They can stop you in your tracks. Whether it’s spiders, flying, birds, anything at all. I can introduce you to some powerful techniques to help you overcome your phobia. Just imagine now a life free of your fears. Wouldn’t that be liberating?
Diet and health
Whether you struggle keeping your weight where you’d like it, or just want to start going to a gym or eating more healthily, coaching can help you through this. After all, it’s a change you’re making, and that’s what coaching is all about.
We can look at changing your relationship with food, changing how you think about food, ways to motivate you to eat different things and break old bad habits. We can also work on motivation to get out there and walk to work instead of driving, or going to that gym class your friends have been talking about but you just haven’t been able to motivate yourself to try. Being healthy is partly a physical thing, but also very much about your mental attitude and how you approach it in your mind.
There are also some very powerful NLP techniques I can introduce you to to change the way you think about things you like or dislike in a very real way. These can be particularly useful if you want to turn a food you love like chocolate into something you’re not so bothered about… No, it’s not impossible, and it’s not magic I promise, but you might be surprised by the results.
Dealing with a diagnosis or long-term health condition
As I’ve already said, I am not a health professional. I cannot cure your physical health conditions and would never promise anything of the sort. However, the way we approach a physical health condition in our minds can make a huge difference to how they affect us. NLP works on the basis that our mind and body are not separate entities, they are very much connected. Whether you’ve just been handed a diagnosis, or you’re dealing with a long-term health condition, together we can work on that mind-body connection, and use it in your favour. Hypnosis can also be very powerful when used for pain management. Why not give it a try?
I know it’s hard to feel upbeat and positive when you’re feeling physically ill, but mental strength can give us physical strength. Together we can talk about how to mentally manage your condition, how to stay mentally strong when you feel physically weak, and you may be surprised how much your mental strength affects your physical well-being in turn.
We all assume when we’re feeling physically bad for whatever reason, it makes us feel mentally weaker, and just a bit down and out. We forget that if our body can influence our mind, then we can flip it the other way and make our minds affect our bodies in a much more positive way. I’m not saying you can shrink cancer with your mind, I’m just saying if you mentally give up, then your body will give up with you, but if you refuse to give in, if you refuse to let your body get you down, your body will have to go with your mind. How else do you think athletes can achieve the things they do? They put their bodies under intense physical pressure, but they can do it because they’re telling themselves they can do it, and they’re going to do it no matter what. So who says you can’t do the same and make this work in whatever situation you’re in?
Coaching for teenagers and young people
If you are coming here as a concerned parent, you’ve come to the right place. Is your child going through something that you’re not sure how to deal with on your own? I am very experienced at working with young people.
Teenhood can be a crazy time, filled with new and confusing emotions, not to mention the social and academic pressures of school.
Sometimes a teenager may have issues that are easier to talk about with an impartial party outside of the family. Depression, anxiety and eating disorders are particularly on the rise among teenagers. These issues can leave a parent, as well as the young person feeling terrified, not knowing what to do or how to fix the problem. As a parent, I know you just want to do all you can to help the one you love, but sometimes you can’t just take the problem away like you could when they were little. As a teenager, you’ll be feeling just as terrified and confused, and you’ll want someone to take all this pain and confusion away, but sometimes you won’t even know how to ask for help, or you won’t think anyone can really help you.
Coaching can help a young person deal with all of these confusing emotions. It may be a hard journey for everyone, but we can work through it together.
I have seen the parent-child relationship suffer when the child is going through something terrible inside themselves, and all the parent wants to do is help. Sometimes worry can boil over into frustration, and this, through no fault of the parent can leave a child feeling like they’re in the wrong for feeling the way they do. We don’t want that relationship to break down, leaving the child feeling more alone than ever. It’s very common for parents to feel so far away from a child going through something that they can’t explain. The child feels stuck inside their own head, unable to explain to others who don’t feel what they’re feeling how it feels to be them, and the parent can feel lost and unable to help or understand their own child.
With this in mind I can work with a young person alone so they can talk about whatever is going on confidentially, but I can also work with the young person and the parent or parents altogether. It’s important to keep lines of communication open, so no-one is left feeling scared and alone. With me acting as mediator, together everyone can be open, and discuss their worries in turn. This can be hugely beneficial for everyone involved. Anyone going through any issue at all needs a support network, and when you’re a young person your family needs to be your support network, so it’s vital to keep that network working together as smoothly as possible. It’s all about understanding each other, understanding and listening to how everyone is feeling and learning how best to help each other.
There are far more issues associated with teenhood than I can cover here, so if you have any concerns or questions, just send me a message or give me a call. I’ll be happy to discuss your case as every individual is different.
